Description

Tough as nails and ready for anything, the State Bicycle Co. 4130 Trail Mountain Bike is a no-BS trail machine designed to crush climbs, rip descents, and handle whatever you throw at it. Whether you're slashing singletrack, hammering urban shortcuts, or packing up for an epic bikepacking trip, this bike is built to send it.

"A mountain bike of this caliber has no business being under $2,000."
— BIKE Magazine
Bikepacking.com found the 4130 Trail's geometry "quite similar to that of much more expensive bikes" — the payoff of an era where trail geometry has converged on something confidence-inspiring and genuinely high-performance, rather than something you pay extra to access.
— Bikepacking.com, "Inflation Buster"
Pinkbike noted the 65° head angle puts the 4130 in the same territory as bikes from their Value Bike Field Test, and that the steel frames aren't heavy even measured against higher-end steel equivalents — a well-appointed frame with a sensible parts mix and clear upgrade paths where they matter.

Quick Features

  • Progressive Trail Geometry: A slack 65° head angle, low-slung top tube, and long front-center keep things stable when the trail gets rowdy while maintaining playful agility in the corners.
  • 12-Speed Shimano Deore Drivetrain: A tough-as-hell 1x12 setup with Deore M6100 shifter and rear derailleur, paired with an 11–50T cassette for big climbing range and clean, reliable shifting.
  • Double-Butted 4130 Chromoly Steel Frame: Tougher than aluminum and smoother than carbon, our double-butted 4130 Chromoly frame absorbs trail chatter and takes a beating without flinching.
  • RockShox Psylo Silver RC — 130mm Travel, 35mm Stanchions: At this price you'd normally see a budget fork with spindly stanchions and questionable performance. Not here. 35mm upper tubes for steering precision on technical descents, with a Motion Control damper, Solo Air spring, and premium bushings that cut friction over rough ground.
  • Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH): Future-proofed for modern drivetrain tech and easier maintenance, because you shouldn't be stressing parts availability.
  • Dropper Ready — Cabled or Wireless: A 31.6mm seat tube with internal routing means a cabled dropper drops right in, and the frame is equally happy running a fully wireless post with zero cables to route.
  • Threaded Bottom Bracket (73mm BSA): Reliable, creak-free, and easy to service.
  • More Mounting Points: Triple bottle cage mounts on the downtube — because adventure doesn't come with limits.

The drivetrain

Shimano Deore is the part of the lineup where the price stops mattering and the performance starts. M6100 gets the same shift ramps and chain management philosophy as the tiers above it, in a package built to survive being ignored.

An 11–50T cassette against the 32T ring gives 454% of range — a low gear at 0.64:1 that will get you up genuinely steep, loose climbs, and enough at the top for fire roads and flat transfers. One shifter, one derailleur, nothing to cross-chain, and no front shift to fumble mid-climb.

No drama, no fluff. Crisp shifting that keeps working when things get dusty, muddy, and questionable.

⚠️ Assembly Required: This bike ships partially unassembled and will require crank installation, wheel installation, and fork setup (the steerer tube comes uncut). It will also need general setup and tuning, including derailleur indexing and limit screw adjustment. We strongly recommend professional assembly to ensure the safest and highest quality ride experience.
